Diamond

Diamond is the final gemstone, having few failings and many strengths. It is well-known that Diamond is the toughest substance found in nature, but few folks realize that Diamond is 4 times harder than the following hardest natural mineral, corundum (sapphire and ruby). But even as tough as it is, it isn't impervious. Diamond has 4 directions of cleavage, suggesting that if it receives a pointy blow in one of these directions it'll cleave, or split.
